Award Winning Culture Tours
The Trust’s award winning Aboriginal Culture Group has recently been visiting schools across Eurobodalla demonstrating traditional painting and discussing many facets of Indigenous culture. Students have enjoyed learning about survival skills, language and tradition as well as the importance of healthy eating choices and budgeting.
The tour of the local schools was part of the ‘What’s Next?” project where Trust programs are shared with the school students, showing them the kinds of things they can enjoy at The Trust when they leave school. The Aboriginal Culture Group runs at Batemans Bay weekly and is open to Indigenous and non-Indigenous participants interested in connecting to culture, their local environment and their local community.
The Culture Group took a large turtle cut out to the classes at the three schools and taught them some basic methods of Aboriginal painting, leaving the task for them to complete the painting with the promise to come back and check in on each one. Moruya High School could not have been happier with the results. The students produced a magnificent turtle from the combined inspiration and hard work of Tom and the Culture Group.
“On behalf of the Special Education faculty at Moruya High School we would like to thank the Disability Trust for the great work you do acting as mentors for our students and helping them to engage with their culture”. Graham Bugden, Moruya High School.
