Over the past 12 months the Friends of The Disability Trust has continued its fundraising efforts to support our goal of delivering a Respite House for The Disability Trust. Earlier this year Friends of the
Trust founder Daniel Norris from Ray White Dapto & Horsley identified a perfect piece of land in Dapto. Quickly the land was agreed upon by The Trust and purchased with the donations from Friends of The Trust and the NSW Government grant from 2016 with the help of the Ricky Stuart Foundation. We are proud to reach this stage as it has taken a lot of effort to raise the funds required. It is a great milestone to achieve and we would like to thank all our supporters.
Once the land was purchased the Friends of The Disability Trust decided to take a step away from the Respite House build and concentrate on smaller projects moving forward. This will enable the Friends of The Trust to be able to react more quickly to the needs of people with disabilities in the local community and support those in need on a more regular basis.
Friends of The Disability Trust are proud to have got this project up and running and to the stage where we have been able to purchase land for the build. We see the need for respite opportunities as imperative to ensuring families get a break to recharge the batteries in the knowledge their child is the safe hands of The Disability Trust. The opportunities this project will enable for participants to develop their independence and social skills is invaluable in ensuring they become active and inclusive members of their local community.
Over the past 12 months Friends of The Disability Trust have held the following events:
- BaiMed 100 100’s – Beaton Park Wollongong
- Ray White Illawarra Golf Day – Links Shell Cove
- Champagne & Oysters Night – Diggies North Beach
- Barefoot bowls afternoon – Towradgi Park Bowling Club Towradgi
All of the events were a great success and they enabled Friends of The Trust to not only generate donations for our causes but more importantly promote the importance of inclusion and supporting others in our local community. We are proud to provide opportunities for people within our local community moving forward and help The Disability Trust to create an inclusive world.
