This year the Wests Illawarra “Around the World in 80 Days” Gala Night for The Disability Trust was held on Saturday, 22nd July and was an outstanding success, raising a huge $133,000 for Kids Fund and The Disability Trusts children’s services.
The star of the night was beautiful two year old Ruby McLean from Woonona, whose parents shared their story with the room. Ruby was diagnosed with SMA (spinal muscular atrophy) at nine months of age which is a degenerative disease with no cure. Wests CEO Danny Munk surprised the family by co-ordinating donations from organisations in the room to assist them with renovations to their home to the sum of $40,000.
Wests Illawarra as part of the Aster Group donated $50,000 as well as a donation of $20,000 from the Indian Community from their Taj Mahal night and $28,000 from PowerFM. A further $30,730 was raised from the live and silent auction items that were available on the night.
We were entertained by the wonderful Music Makers, the fabulous Ellie Drennan, winner of The Voice Australia 2015, and danced the night away with the fantastic Groove Academy.
Everyone had a fabulous night, and once again we thank Wests Illawarra and our Community for your incredible generosity which helps The Disability Trust build a stronger and more inclusive Illawarra community for everyone.
